the persistence of dreams at the Open Studio Gallery, 468 King St. West, Toronto, Ontario, Canada M5V 1L8 Tel./ Fax (416) 504 8238, November 2 - 27. Gallery hours Monday to Saturday 12 - 5.
Description: The gallery is semi-darkened but facing the viewer is a yellow light and an oscillating fan, illuminating and gently moving the work as it sweeps from side to side. One wall has a masked procession which begins playfully but quickly gets out of control. It mingles the sexual and the destructive with the playful and the sentimental. People are partially hidden by masks which are lifted by the breeze. The opposite wall looks like the cross-section of a vast, institutional structure with a grid of rooms each occupied by a single figure. They shudder but they continue to stare.
